Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. An elegant, rather simplistic ceramic vessel from a culture that usually created strongly representational pottery. The body is nearly spherical, but upon closer examination, one can see it is deliberately three sided and decorated with a large number of small nodes that represent either the "eyes" of a potato or spots on a native gourd. Tall neck that narrows slightly to a flared rim. A lovely, rare example. Size: 3" W x 5.5" H (7.6 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s
