Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 1000 to 200 BCE. A beautiful hand-built and highly-burnished brownware pottery vessel with a lightly-rounded but stable base, a tall egg-shaped body, a thick stirrup-shaped handle, and a corseted neck with an everted rim. Each half of the body features an incised abstract zoomorphic head, perhaps that of a simian creature, each with rounded eyes, large ears protruding from the verso, petite noses, and massive snouts displaying two rows of gnashing teeth. Size: 5.3" W x 11.625" H (13.5 cm x 29.5 cm).
