Description:

Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Chavin culture, Casa Grande type, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A hand-built brownware pottery vessel with a stable base, an egg-shaped body with a sloped shoulder, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a gently carinated cylindrical spout with a slanted lip projecting from the top. The decorative motifs are split vertically into two halves, with one bearing smooth surface textures, and the other bearing meticulously pecked patterns that create a nice texture. Size: 5.8" W x 10.7" H (14.7 cm x 27.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

  • Condition: Restoration to spout, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and minor nicks to base, body, handle, and spout, with minor fading to original coloration, and light encrustations. Smooth and textured surfaces on respective halves of vessel are nicely preserved. TL drill holes beneath the base and inside of the handle/spout.
