Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. In incredible condition, and with an accumulated silvery iridescent patina, this is a beautiful blackware bowl with a simple, elegant motif of repeated concentric circles. The bowl flares outward slightly, and then is carinated at the shoulder, with a rim that bends very gently inward. A wide, half-circle spout projects from one side of the bowl. Ceramics from this culture are often grey-black in color and highly polished, stamped with double concentric circles. The Chavin people lived in the northern Highland Andes, and their capital, Chavin de Huantar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The artwork of Chavin represents the first widespread style in the Andes, inspirational to later cultures, especially the Moche. Size: 8.2" L x 7.5" W x 2.55" H (20.8 cm x 19 cm x 6.5 cm)
