Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rican, 800-1200 CE. This attractive ensemble of handbuilt vessels demonstrates the ancient Costa Ricans' adept technique and stylings. The cup is particularly fetching for the endearing face comprised of characteristic coffee bean eyes, parted mouth, and naturalistic nose. The largest of the vessels features a corsetted silhouette with four petite handles. The small and elegantly simple jar shows the richness of terracotta hues. Each piece in the group if finely coil built, scraped, and smoothed. 5-3/4"T x 6-1/2"D at widest (largest); 3 3/4"T x 5 1/4"D at widest (face cup); 3 1/4"T x 4 1/2"D at widest (smallest).
