Pre-Columbian, central coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel depicting a recumbent canine with dozens of incised striations across the face and body indicative of wrinkles. The relaxing canine has a curved body with slender legs tucked forelegs tucked beneath its head, a tapered tail, and a cream-colored spout projecting from the brown-hued body. The amicable face presents with white ovoid eyes, a narrow snout with delineated nostrils, perky ears, and a mouth full of incised teeth. An attractive example of man's best friend from ancient Peru. Size: 7.25" L x 4" W x 3.3" H (18.4 cm x 10.2 cm x 8.4 cm)
