From "History of the Indian Tribes of North America" by Thomas L. McKenney and James Hall. A bust-length portrait of Kai-Pol-E-Qua, presenting his head and shoulders, the sitter facing toward his right, holding a sword in the crook of his left arm, with a blanket over his left shoulder. His proud visage is highly decorated with many hooped black and white earrings in both ears, a tall bird feather atop his head, and a large golden medallion around his neck. A wonderful example of Charles Bird King's artwork, who was best known for his portrayals of important Native American leaders. Size of sheet: 21.188" L x 15.188" W (53.8 cm x 38.6 cm)
