Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A woven and braided textile defensive sling or tump line, made from camelid wool (alpaca or llama) fiber. The cords are thickly braided with a split cradle panel at the center covered in patterned weaving in blue-black, red, and yellow ochre hues. This cradle would support the burden when used as a tump line and could also launch stones as a protective slingshot. When not in use as either, the weaving is lightweight and perfect to use as a belt. Size: 84" L x 1.75" W (213.4 cm x 4.4 cm)
