Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A fantastic hand-woven textile composed of loosely interlacing cotton threads to create a gauze-like effect in hues of light beige with an outer band of walnut brown. The panel is made from 2 large pieces of gauze that are sewn together through the center. The thicker hem weaving may be camelid wool from alpaca or llama, in a coffee brown hue and woven into the outer peripheries as solid bands and geometric motifs with forked elements. The size suggests use as a headdress wrap or other mantle adornment for burial- an incredible piece of weaving that is well preserved! Size: 31.5" L x 30.5" W (80 cm x 77.5 cm)
