Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. A superb hand-woven reed basket and numerous weaving tools. Included are wood spindle needles, some with attached pottery spindle whorl beads or the remains of wool threads, loose pottery spindle whorls, and a woven wool tassel. The wider wood tools are batten or beater sticks. Size of woven box: 13" L x 6" W x 3" H (33 cm x 15.2 cm x 7.6 cm)

  • Condition: Losses to the woven box, mainly on the lid as shown, with some tears and fraying to lip. Lid is attached to box, but case is delicate and should not be opened regularly, and probably not suitable for storing the tools. Losses to wood spindle tips and some are fragmentary pieces as shown, but most are intact and very good. Chips and losses to some whorl pottery beads.
