Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. Two textile fragments, both comprised of tightly-woven fibers in cream, red, orange, gold, and brown hues. The first textile includes several cross-shaped designs, each with several additional inner diamond and cross patterns. The second textile, a set of pants for a small child, are made of rough cream-colored fibers and are incredibly thin to the touch. Each textile is mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 10.5" L x 5" W (26.7 cm x 12.7 cm) for the cross motif textile, and 7.5" L x 5.875" W (19 cm x 14.9 cm) for the pants.

Provenance: private Slavin Collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
