Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. This earthen-toned textile panel is comprised of semi-tightly woven fibers in shades of brown, gold, black, cream, and red. The composition of the bottom half is comprised of alternating rows of gold, red, and cream hexagonal shapes, and the top half of sharply-angled gold and cream lines which create vertical columns of thick-walled pyramids. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 9.5" L x 4.75" W (24.1 cm x 12.1 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia between 1971 and 1972
