Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A tightly woven textile fragment with 32 feline motifs arranged in eight rows of four endearing cats - perhaps domestic, perhaps wild jaguars - delineated in red and white dyed camelid fibers (llama or alpaca) against a natural beige ground, standing with raised paws. A sweet example ideal for any cat lover, created by the Chancay peoples of Central Andes. Size: textile measures 5.4" W x 13.25" H (13.7 cm x 33.7 cm); mount measures 6" W x 14.2" H (15.2 cm x 36.1 cm)

Provenance: ex private C. Webster collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico USA acquired before 2000
