Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A standing doll of a stylized anthropomorphic form constructed from cotton and camelid (alpaca or llama) fibers in hues of chocolate, cream, fuchsia, white, and tan. The doll wears an intricately woven skirt with lighter-hued linear motifs, a cream-hued scarf, and a black-and-fuchsia headband. Her face features rectangular eyes, a bar-shaped nose, and a slender mouth, and on the verso is a petite child held aloft via a sling. Dolls like this example were perhaps meant as a child's plaything. Size: 3.5" W x 9.3" H (8.9 cm x 23.6 cm); 9.75" H (24.8 cm) on included custom stand.
