Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A fabulous doll with an interior framework comprised of tightly-bound natural plant fibers and textile decorations made from camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of fuchsia, crimson, slate grey, wheat, espresso, and cream. The ovoid body is covered with a rectangular shawl adorned with several horizontal stripes, and the head dons an expressive mask with diamond-shaped eyes and colorful cheek panels suggestive of ritual tattooing. A lovely figurative example from ancient Peru! Size: 6.75" W x 9.25" H (17.1 cm x 23.5 cm); 9.75" H (24.8 cm) on included custom stand.
