Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built child's doll with a body comprised of woven reed fibers. A small stick replaces the legs of the figure, and the pink-hued arms are sewn onto the shoulders. The dress features large panels of burgundy-hued camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers which alternate between brown-and-yellow strips, and the vestment wraps around the body until meeting on the verso. The rectangular head boasts a stylized visage of bullseye-form eyes, a rectangular mouth, tan-and-red panels around the cheeks and forehead, and locks of dark-brown hair cascading down the back. Size: 7" W x 10.625" H (17.8 cm x 27 cm).
