Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a pair of spherical chambers, each resting on a flared foot. Presenting in creamy yellow-white hues, the vessel features a standing jaguar effigy atop the front chamber, a tapered mouthpiece rising from the back chamber, and a stirrup-shaped handle arching between them. The stylized feline prowls atop delineated legs, peering off to one side with enormous eyes, and with dark brown pigment creating its fur. A raised tone hole on one end of the handle creates a pleasing whistle sound when air is blown in through the spout. Size: 9.375" L x 5.375" W x 8.375" H (23.8 cm x 13.7 cm x 21.3 cm)
