Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1425 CE. Explicitly depicting a heterosexual couple engaged in sexual intercourse, a polychrome earthenware vessel featuring a male figure with a four-horned headdress and spotted facial tattoos/face paint, mounting a female figure whose visage is adorned with a stylized tattooed or painted mask and whose arched, rounded back comprises the bottom of the vessel. Both figures also present abstract geometric motifs decorating their backs. Emerging from the male figure's back is a wide-mouthed opening to the vessel that is beautifully painted with concentric white chevrons. Custom stand.
