Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. Attractive pottery vessel with a near spherical round-bottomed body, a wide-mouthed olla-shaped spout emerging from a narrow opening (to prevent evaporation), and twin loop handles. In Classic Chancay style, the cream-hued surfaces are painted with black abstract geometric textile-inspired designs, and sweet schematized renderings of standing birds in profile grace three panels of the bulbous spout. Size: 5.5" in diameter x 5.875" H (14 cm x 14.9 cm)
