Description:

Pre-Columbian, central coast of Peru, Chancay. ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery bridge-spouted vessel with 2 ovoid chambers resting atop flared feet. Atop one chamber is a standing figure who wears a frilled collar as well as a trapezoidal headdress adorned with a conch shell. Atop the second chamber is a conical spout which produces a high-pitched whistling sound when air is blown into it. The entire vessel is decorated with dark brown pigment atop the cream ground, with vertical bars and zigzags adorning the sides. Size: 7.625" L x 2.8" W x 9" H (19.4 cm x 7.1 cm x 22.9 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s
