Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A remarkable pottery jar of rotund form with an ovoid body flanked by a pair of vertical, ribbon-form handles and a corseted spout with twin lug handles. Enveloped in creamy beige slip, the vessel is adorned with elaborate, black-painted decoration of checkered, linear, and dotted designs, asl well as a pair of relief monkeys above each handle. Size: 12.2" L x 10.7" Diameter (31 cm x 27.2 cm)
