Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A pottery jar of voluminous form featuring a classic egg-shaped body, corseted neck, and cup-shaped rim, adorned with a pair of applied feline heads as lugs on the sides. Additional applied animal lugs, possibly frogs, are positioned lower on the shoulder. The surface is slipped in a creamy beige and decorated with intricate black and dark brown lattice, spiral, and geometric motifs. Size: 9" Diameter x 15" H (22.9 cm x 38.1 cm).
