Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery flask of circular form with a carinated lateral periphery, a pair of integral suspension loops, and a cylindrical spout. The cream-hued body is decorated with black pigment to form a large central X motif flanked by a pair of abstract, tentacle-laden zoomorphs, perhaps squid or octopi. Size: 7.375" W x 7.875" H (18.7 cm x 20 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
