Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery canteen of sizable form with a rounded base beneath the bulbous, egg-shaped body. Each side of the body is adorned with a large, 5-petal flower with a central protuberance representing the disc floret or stamen of the bloom. A pair of mirrored strap handles are present atop the tapered shoulder and exhibit evidence of where the original spout was at one time. Size: 7.2" W x 9" H (18.3 cm x 22.9 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-private Arkansas, USA collection, via descent in 2021; ex-private Florida estate, USA, acquired from the 1960s to 1970s
