Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A wonderful bichrome pottery figural, round-bottomed vessel depicting a beggar. With applied and painted details in traditional chocolate brown hues against a white ground, the endearing figure sits with upraised knees and holds a small separately modeled and applied cup in his hands, appealing to any passersby. His expressive visage is delineated with ovoid eyes, a straight protruding nose, and a subtly jutting chin, all highlighted with dark brown pigment. Arms and hands are also delineated in relief. Wonderful painted detailing emphasizes his eyes and mouth, greatly contributing to his lively demeanor! Size: 7.25" L x 5.75" W x 8.5" H (18.4 cm x 14.6 cm x 21.6 cm)
