Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A lovely sling known as a "honda" comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of coffee and cream. The lengthy braided straps bear either a zigzagging motif or a chromatically alternating motif, and the central projectile holder is intentionally split down the center to hold larger items. A fine example of hand-woven weaponry from ancient Peru! Size: 74.25" L x 1.25" W (188.6 cm x 3.2 cm).

Provenance: private Allison collection, Kent, Washington, USA, inherited in the mid-1970s
