Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery shaman figure standing with outstretched arms and cupped hands. The figure wears a belt comprised of rectangular segments across the broad waistline beneath four cream-hued ornaments of perhaps shamanic importance. The elongated head presents with ovoid eyes outlined in black, a slender nose, a mouth tattooed with black pigment, and a tall hat. A bag draped from a tump line behind the head is decorated with linear and geometric motifs and perhaps held instruments necessary for the individual to conduct their shamanic ritual. Small rattle balls within the figure create a bright sound when jostled. Size: 5.625" W x 7.75" H (14.3 cm x 19.7 cm)

  • Condition: Nicks and light pitting to body, arms, and head, with minor fading to pigment in some areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to pigment throughout. Rattle balls within figure still create a nice sound when jostled.
