Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Canosan Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd century BCE. A heavy ceramic bowl with a round body and a projecting, nipple-like spout. Three deep grooves run down the surface of the spout, creating channels for pouring libations - wine, oil, or water - at a slow but steady pace. The vessel has a thick rim, a round disc foot, and a deep basin. The shoulder is decorated with applied white and dark-grey pigment atop which drooping strands of painted red-orange beads are presented. Size: 7.4" W x 2.2" H (18.8 cm x 5.6 cm).

  • Condition: Minor nicks and abrasions to spout, body, rim, and base, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout, and great remains of original pigment around shoulder.
