Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi culture, ca. late 20th century CE. A fine vintage pair of framed tiles depicting a Hopi kachina dancer, with vibrant hand-glazed hues using the cuerda seca technique to create crisp lines and prevent colors running together. The two tiles are mounted together in a wood frame and ready to display, the verso is signed / labeled in pencil, but indiscernible. This is the Morning Singer (Talavai) kachina with his attributes of a spruce tree and bell. Size of tiles: 12" L x 6" W (30.5 cm x 15.2 cm); wood frame: 14.5" L x 8.5" W (36.8 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: private Alamo, California, USA collection, acquired from a hotel remodeling sale in Taos, New Mexico, USA in 1991
