Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Bronze Age, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A very pretty example of a cast bronze axe head, its hollow body decorated with a raised pattern of lines and dots between two high ridges that delineate the upper and lower edges of the blade. This item was probably made only to be ceremonial or given as a funerary offering, although its edge does suggest that it was once kept quite sharp (many others made for a similar purpose are never sharpened). Size: 4.75" L x 2.25" W (12.1 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection
