Central Asia, Iran, Nahavand region, Tepe Giyan I, ca. 1400 to 1100 BCE. A stunning and large pottery pot with a stylized hand painted motif across the upper shoulder and neck. The piece has a globular profile with a molded ring-form foot, corseted neck, flared mouth, and slightly downturned rim. The black-on-cream decoration is a repeating motif of curvilinear registers, vertical stripes, and abstract figures with insect like bodies, and geometric shapes. This is a beautiful example of a substantial size! Size: 13" Diameter x 14" H (33 cm x 35.6 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
