Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1060 to 1340 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of spherical form with a tapered shoulder and a thin rim. Across the beige-ground exterior are red and black decorations that form large linear and geometric motifs in the traditional Ramos Polychrome manner. The Casas Grandes (or Chihuahua) culture has always been the best known of the prehistoric cultures of northwest Mexico. International awareness of the culture first derived from its polychrome pottery and from the massive ruins of the culture's principal center, Casas Grandes - also known as Paquime.
