Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A lovely pottery jar of round-bottomed form with a tapered shoulder and a flared rim, all atop a separate pottery base that was repurposed from a larger, damaged vessel. Both the vessel and base feature elaborate linear and geometric motifs in hues of red and black in the classic Ramos Polychrome style that are intended to dazzle the observer. Size: 9.63" W x 8.1" H (24.5 cm x 20.6 cm); 11.9" H (30.2 cm) on accompanying pottery stand.

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 009. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.

  • Condition: Pottery stand was repurposed from a previously-damaged vessel. Full vessel with repair to area of rim and stabilization to one fissure stemming from rim. Stand is repaired from a few pieces as shown. Both with abrasions, pitting, and light fading to pigment, otherwise in nice condition.

For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
