Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of round-bottomed form in the shape of a fish. The minimalist face exhibits an annular striation colored with black pigment on its face, and the remainder of the upper body is adorned with stripes of black and red pigment. Petite fins as well as a tail protrude from the sides. Size: 8.5" L x 7.75" W x 4.7" H (21.6 cm x 19.7 cm x 11.9 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 078. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
