Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A beautiful pottery portrait jar depicting a stylized anthropomorphic visage protruding from the top of the rim. The cream-hued body is adorned with dense, black-painted linear motifs with a series of abstract curvilinear forms with 'eyes' in the center; a stripe of red pigment encircles the figure's neck. Size: 5.61" W x 6.9" H (14.2 cm x 17.5 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 091. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
