Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A fascinating pottery jar in the form of a nude male figure seated with hands on knees flanking a protruding phallus as his owl-like visage projects forward. Slender arms depicted in relief extend from the broad rim of the vessel, which is placed just behind the stylized, avianesque head comprised of arched brows, a widow's peak, wide eyes with elongated outer corners, a straight nose, and a petite, incised mouth. Enveloped in a hue of light orange, the surface of the jar is skillfully hand-painted in black and red decoration of geometric and linear designs. Size: 7.4" Diameter x 7.8" H (18.8 cm x 19.8 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired with restoration and repainting over break lines; all done very well and difficult to notice. Light surface wear with nicks and abrasions as shown, but otherwise, nice presentation with good pigments and detail.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
