Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Blackware type, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A blackware pottery double lobed jar having a very slightly flared rim, and rounded, but stable base. This blackware is a type of pottery associated with the Ramos Polychrome tradition, which originated in the Casas Grandes (Paquime) region in northern Mexico. This pottery style is characterized by its distinctive black, often highly polished surface which is achieved through a specialized firing process that includes smothering the pottery with organic materials to create a reducing atmosphere, which results in the black coloration. Size: 8" Diameter x 7" H (20.3 cm x 17.8 cm)
