Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A polychrome pottery olla of large bulbous, round-bottomed body and a gently flaring neck. The body boasts striking step motifs, triangular forms inscribed with striated forms, and repeated beaked bird heads and horned zoomorphic heads (their curling horns suggest that these are representations of bighorn sheep) painted in black on a creamy beige hued ground. Size: 7.75" in diameter x 7" H (19.7 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
