Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A polychrome pottery olla with a large bulbous, round-bottomed body that corsets to a gently flaring neck. The decorative program is comprised of striking stepped and other stylized geometric motifs, many with pointed or curled terminals painted in russet red and jet black slip on a cream ground. A charming hand built vessel with remarkably thin walls and an intricate decorative program demonstrating the highly developed technique of the pottery. Size: 8.25" in diameter x 9.45" H (21 cm x 24 cm)
