Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of spherical form with a round but stable base, stone-burnished surfaces, and a squat rim painted in red. The white-ground body features an elaborate decorative program of linear motifs, stepped blocks, spiraling stripes, and abstract zoomorphic heads with teardrop-shaped eyes, all in black pigment. Two of the stepped blocks are colored with red pigment which also encompasses the rim and adds a pop of color to the otherwise bichrome surface. Size: 8.36" Diameter x 7" H (21.2 cm x 17.8 cm)
