Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A fabulous, hand-built pottery olla of round-bottomed form with tapered walls, a deep basin, and a thick rim bearing an abstract anthropomorphic face projecting from one side. The tan-orange ground features intricately painted black motifs in linear and geometric forms along the lower body, while a pair of black bands cover the eyes and chin of the upper; a red horizontal band separating upper from lower. The protruding visage bears lozenge-shaped eyes with delineated pupils, a slender nose, and a slit-form mouth. Size: 7" Diameter x 7" H (17.8 cm x 17.8 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired and restored; done expertly and very difficult to notice. Light surface wear with small nick to tip of nose, but otherwise excellent presentation with nicely preserved pigments. Earthen deposits in areas.
