Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua, Mogollon culture, Casas Grandes or Paquime, ca. 1130 to 1450 CE. A delightful terracotta vessel in the form of a fish presenting a bulbous body adorned with a register of black and red nested spiral motifs atop a beige-slip ground. Featuring bulging eyes and a gaping mouth, the aquatic animal's head projects from one side of the jar while his bifurcated tail protrudes from the other. All is surmounted by a gently flared rim flanked by 2 loops allowing the vessel to be suspended. Just imagine the effect once this ancient vessel was hung in one's home - the charming fish must look as though he's swimming through the air with each blow of breeze! Size: 8.6" L x 5" W x 4.2" H (21.8 cm x 12.7 cm x 10.7 cm)

- Condition: Professional restoration and repainting to fin, areas of rim, and face, all done expertly and very difficult to notice. Some light scuffs and abrasions as shown, but otherwise excellent presentation with nice preservation of painted decoration.
