Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery olla of round-bottomed form with a large piriform body, a sloped shoulder, and a thick, everted rim. Black and red pigment applied across the exterior surfaces create a wondrous motif of linear and geometric forms that show abstract fields of corn as well as abstract macaws. An attractive example of ancient Casas Grandes pottery that is sure to complement any discerning collection! Size: 8.55" Diameter x 8" H (21.7 cm x 20.3 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired with restoration, with chips and adhesive residue visible along interior break lines, and resurfacing and overpainting to new material along exterior break lines. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with touch-up painting to some exterior decorations, and minor spalls across exterior but mostly along base. Nice preservation to decorative motifs. Old inventory label beneath base.
