Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes culture, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery jar of stable form with a bulging midsection and a flared rim, all above a petite base. The smooth, beige-hued exterior surfaces are decorated with a red-and-beige checkerboard stripe outlined in black, and below is a register of abstract spiraling forms as well as a minimalist geometric form, perhaps representing a mountain. Size: 7.40" Diameter x 6.8" H (18.8 cm x 17.3 cm)
