Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Paquime/Casas Grandes, 1150 to 1450 CE. This is a nice polychrome geometric decorated vessel with twin animal faces in high relief molded into the body on either side. The decoration style, with its fine lines, looks to belong to the Ramos Polychrome group, which represents the pinnacle of achievement for Casas Grandes ceramics. Casas Grandes is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and was a hugely important intermediary -- in terms of trade, art, and culture -- between the empires of Mesoamerica and the Ancestral Puebloans (Anasazi) of the US Southwest. Size: 6.5" W x 4.5" H (16.5 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex-New York Collection
