Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A bichrome decorated Casas Grandes pottery vessel of an attractive form, where the body bows outward and inward and resolves to a slightly turned rim to produce an elegant silhouette. The surface is decorated with a hand painted stylized geometric pattern that includes the coveted lightning motif in black on a cream ground. Note that the natural hues of the clay body on the lower section of the vessel actually add a third red hue to the piece. This piece is quite a beauty! Size: 8.25" in diameter x 5.75" H (21 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex- private Iowa collection formed in the 1970's
