Ancient Near East, Canaan/Holy Land, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A bronze statuette showing the god Baal as an elongated, thin body with arms stretched out to the sides and a head with a conical crown above a clearly human face. Baal is the chief deity of Canaanite religion, a storm god associated with the fertility of the land, often depicted in an abstract but recognizably human way. Size: 1.2" W x 4.1" H (3 cm x 10.4 cm); 4.8" H (12.2 cm) on included custom stand.
