Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, Canaan, the Levant, ca. 1st millennium BCE. An elegant pyxis skillfully carved from banded alabaster to display a trapezoidal silhouette adorned by carefully incised bands and a decoratively ridged shoulder edge. Boasting creamy hues of peach, vanilla, and almond, the ancient vessel features a cylindrical body with a sloped shoulder and raised rim, all sitting upon a planar base. The pyxis form is found throughout the ancient Near East and the Classical world and was probably imported to the ancient Levant from Mycenaean Greece. Examples such as this remind us of the interconnected trade world of the ancient Mediterranean and the rich cultural milieu of the past. Size: 3" Diameter x 2" H (7.6 cm x 5.1 cm)
