Description:

Holy Land, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A breathtaking carved alabaster vessel of a remarkably perfect circular form with a rounded base and a flared rim. The alabaster shows beautiful pink, cream, and beige hues with a subtle striated patterning to the inclusions. This offering dish was created by the Canaanites. Canaanite is a biblical term that identifies the people who lived in the land of Israel before the Israelites. The Torah and other historical books suggest that the Canaanites were not one ethnic group, but rather comprised of various groups including the Perizzites, the Hittites, and the Hivites.
