Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Valle Del Cauca, Calima, Yotoco Phase, ca. 300 to 1300 CE. A fabulous mold-formed pottery alcarraza of an intriguing form replete with mammiform and phalliform details. The bulbous body rests upon a base of six engorged mammaries constituting the overall structure. The pinched shoulder and domed top resemble a phallic head, and a pair of tapering conical spouts project from beneath either terminal of an arching handle. Faint traces of black-on-red resist details adorn the highly-burnished exterior. Size: 6.25" W x 6.5" H (15.9 cm x 16.5 cm).

Provenance: ex-John Rich collection, California, USA. John Rich was a notable Hollywood producer/director.
